Why are we collecting this information?

Every year, Traficom polls drivers who were recently issued a driving licence concerning their satisfaction with the driving examination and asking them about the competence acquired in driving instruction. This questionnaire, with minor variations, has been used to collect information from new drivers since 2001.

The questionnaire responses are used in the development of driving instruction, in evaluating traffic safety trends among new drivers and in designing the driving licence system. The content of driving instruction is reviewed every year. Your feedback is thus important for us to be able to improve the examination so that it will ­prepare drivers for a variety of situations as well as possible.

How will the responses be handled?

Your responses will be handled in strict confidence. The data collected for the study will not be stored or disclosed in a form that would allow any of the respondents to be identified.  The survey findings will be presented as tables and figures showing response averages. Responses given by an individual respondent cannot be identified in the findings as presented. Name and address ­data will not be used for any other purpose than for mailing the study invitation cards and the ­questionnaire forms. The name and address data will be deleted from the study materials once the ­mailings have been completed. Anyone who participates in the study has the right to inspect their data ­as entered in the research database by contacting Sitowise.

The right of inspection can be exercised if the name and address data has not yet been deleted from the study materials.

You may view the study findings on the Traficom website at a later date. The study findings will be posted on the Traficom website at www.traficom.fi/fi/tilastot-ja-julkaisut/julkaisut next year.

Why were you selected for this survey?

The domain of this study was created by randomly selecting in the Vehicular and Driver Data Register 8,000 drivers who passed a category B driving examination in 2019. In addition, the random sample of 8,000 drivers who got a driving licence using an age exemption permit during years 2018-2020 were selected.

It is important that as many as possible of the selected drivers would participate in the study, because the study findings will indicate how well driving instruction prepares drivers. Not responding to the survey will weaken the reliability of its results.
