The KupLab Student Hackathon presents a thought-provoking challenge:

- How can Turku Science Park companies elevate their attractiveness to students?
- Are you the missing link that connects high-tech companies, academia, and students in the Turku Kupittaa region?
The hackathon venue Science Park stands as a hub of excellence, forging connections between students and industries even before graduation. The City of Turku, with a great interest in supporting higher education students’ competence, has a spearhead project for developing the Turku Science Park as a region. In this hackathon, we are looking for solutions and fresh ideas to implement in our city’s development and future from you higher education students.
Your objective: Formulate a concept or propose solutions with your team that redefine student or graduate employment in the Turku Kupittaa and Science Park region. Whether it's reshaping paid labour or introducing innovative entrepreneurial models, the challenge accommodates diverse viewpoints.
As a participant, you'll delve into the harmony between academia and business, crafting tactics to amplify student employability through proactive steps. We’ll be with your tem all the way with support and sparring from project management professionals.

To clarify, a hackathon is an intense collaborative event where individuals with various skill sets come together to work on innovative projects, often involving coding, design, and problem-solving. It's a platform to ideate, create, and bring fresh solutions to life within a limited timeframe. Our hackathon will take place in Turku Science Park on 2-3 November 2023.

During the competition, participating student teams will learn basic concepts of service design and user-centered design. The hackathon includes a joint workshop to kickstart the teamwork.
Competition language is English.

The competition is held in at SparkUp, Tykistökatu 4, Turku. Students are required to be on site in Turku: 2 NOV at 9 to 12 AM and 3 NOV at 3.30 to 7.30 PM. The time between is allocated for teamwork.
The competition is open for all students studying in Finland in a higher education institute. Open invitations have been sent to schools in Turku; University of Turku, Åbo Akademi, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Novia University of Applied Sciences and Humak University of Applied Sciences.
Students compete in our hackathon in teams. We are looking for multidisciplinary teams, preferably from different higher education institutes. By multidisciplinary we mean team members' different majors, previously attained multidisciplinary skills or studies other than your major. We value multidisciplinary approach and thinking in our hackathon to ensure versatile ideas and teamwork. It's time to ask friends to join your team!
Team's minimum size is two students and maximum is six. We'll select six teams in total to take part in the KupLab Student Hackathon. The multidisciplinary teams with an enthusiastic attitude for teamwork have a greater possibility to be selected in our hackathon. Let us know a bit more about your team in the application form linked below! Select a team leader to fill the application and don't forget to invent a catchy name for your team.
