Sitowise has been selected to design the building technology for the so-called hot hospital to be built in Pori, the wellbeing services county of Satakunta. The value of the design project is approximately EUR 1 million. The total cost estimate of the project is approximately EUR 120 million, and the new four-storey hot hospital is scheduled to be completed in 2029.

– This win is based on Sitowise's solid experience in building technology for hospital design projects, as well as its special expertise and strong site and personal references in the hospital world. The lessons learned from previous hospital projects have helped to refine the processes and concepts of the design environment, thanks to which Sitowise achieved a competitive combination of quality and price and received excellent quality points in the tendering process, says Timo Räikkönen, Sitowise's Building Operations’ EVP.

The functionality of the hot hospital focuses on services that require urgent care, such as emergency care, intensive care and surgery. The design covers building technology solutions that support these demanding healthcare processes and ensure a safe, reliable and energy-efficient hospital environment.

– In the project, we aim to find the most optimal energy solution for the site, which utilizes renewable energy and waste heat from different systems as extensively as possible. The goal is to achieve a 20% improvement in the E-value compared to a conventional solution and a carbon footprint of at least 10%, which will be assessed and calculated in accordance with the climate study, says Nicholas Stewart, Energy Planner at Sitowise.

– The hospital has numerous critical facilities and HVAC technical systems that must operate smoothly and accurately around the clock. Patient safety and usability throughout the building are paramount, and energy efficiency requirements set new requirements for design. In addition, the operational reliability of critical systems will be strengthened through duplication and backup arrangements, and at the same time, the free energy and heat recovery of building systems will be utilized as efficiently as possible. It is also essential to ensure that all systems work together reliably and efficiently, says Jani Haapanen, HVAC Designer at Sitowise.

The new Satakunta hot hospital will be built as a completely new construction on the site of the old T-building and buildings used for schools. The new construction will enable the continuation of the current operations without disruption, as the implementation of the project will begin with phased demolition work on the premises on the construction site.
