The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency has selected Sitowise to continue as the supplier of expert services for the development of railway information systems for the next three years. The aim of the RAIDE project is to improve the management of railway infrastructure data and the usability of related systems. The phased deployment of the railway information system as a whole began already in 2018 during the first project, and the development work now continues under the new contract period.

–  We already served as the supplier for the development of railway information systems during the previous contract period, and it’s truly great that we won this tough competition and get to continue our long-term collaboration with the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency in developing railway infrastructure data, says Anna Wäck, Sitowise's Digital solutions’ EVP.

The current contract period ends on August 31, 2025, and the new three-year contract period will begin thereafter. The estimated value of the contract is about 2.7 million euros and it includes a two-year option. After the possible option years, the total value of the contract will be approximately 4.5 million euros.

–  In the upcoming period, Sitowise’s expert team will consist of a total of nine people. The contract enables the continuation of development work and ensures the operation of the RAIDE system in the coming years, says Aki Aapaoja, Business segment director at Sitowise.

The RATKO system operates at the core of railway infrastructure data

The key user groups of the railway information system are maintenance personnel, contractors, and construction planners. There are around 153 types of rail assets in the system, over 1.5 million maintenance records, and approximately 3,000 users with access rights.

During the contract period, application development includes the track asset management application (RATKO), which serves as the master data repository for railway infrastructure information. RATKO stores data on over 150 types of assets as well as a detailed description of the railway network’s location referencing system in a planar coordinate system. The system provides a view of both the physical and administrative layers of track assets, and it forms the foundation of the RAIDE system.
