The City of Helsinki partnered with Elisa and Nokia and arranged a 5G base station design competition. The objectives were to design a standard model for Helsinki.
The entries needed to demonstrate single products and products functioning as a system. Features such as adaptability to various environments, operator brand visibility and different mounting options were required.
Our concept was inspired by the shape of the logo of Helsinki and its resemblance to an abstract owl - an identifiable species to even the most urban Helsinki areas. We wanted the owl-shape to be a personal and easily approachable figure, which would enliven the environment and fade the technological feeling of a base station. At the same time the model is technologically feasible; offering radio transparency, adaptability to different mounts and size variants for different applications. Unfortunately our proposition did not succeed in the competition.
